Insurance & Fee Policy
Insurance Matters
To offer the highest quality mental health care possible, Multicultural CBT-DBT, also known as The Flying Psychotherapist, is an Out-of-Network Provider for all insurance companies.
Payment is due at the time of service for each Individual or Family Therapy session.
You may call your insurance company to inquire about your Out-of-Network Outpatient Mental Health Benefits. This information will help you determine how much you may be reimbursed for care received at Multicultural CBT-DBT / The Flying Psychotherapist.
When contacting your insurance company, ask about:
-
Your Annual Deductible and whether it has been met for the current calendar year.
-
The percentage of reimbursement your plan provides for Out-of-Network mental health visits (e.g., 80%, 70%) once your deductible has been met.

The CPT codes of treatment services we most typically provide are:
-
Initial Consultation: CPT #90791

Good Faith Estimate (GFE) –
Federal & State Requirements
Under the No Surprises Act (effective January 1, 2022) and applicable state laws in New York, New Jersey, California, Florida, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania, all health care providers are required to inform patients of their right to receive a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) for the expected cost of services.
-
A GFE shows the estimated cost of services based on information known at the time of scheduling.
-
It does not include unknown or unexpected costs that may arise. If complications occur or services change, you will receive an updated estimate.
-
The GFE does not account for any reimbursement you may receive through your Out-of-Network benefits.
Because Multicultural CBT-DBT / The Flying Psychotherapist is an Out-of-Network provider, we do not have contracts with insurance plans. You may choose to use In-Network providers if you prefer to avoid potential higher costs.
Surprise Billing Protections
You are protected from “surprise bills” under federal law (No Surprises Act) and under state laws in New York, New Jersey, California, Florida, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. These laws generally protect you from being billed more than your In-Network cost-sharing amount when:
-
You receive emergency services.
-
You are unknowingly treated by an Out-of-Network provider at an In-Network facility.
These protections typically apply to hospital, emergency, and facility-based services. They do not usually apply to private practice outpatient mental health services (like those provided at Multicultural CBT-DBT).
Your Rights & Dispute Process
If you receive a bill that is substantially higher than your Good Faith Estimate:
-
You may initiate a dispute resolution process with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
-
This must be done within 120 calendar days (about 4 months) of receiving the original bill.
-
There is a $25 filing fee. If the reviewing agency agrees with you, you will not have to pay the higher amount.
